FINAL FINAL ANNOUNCEMENT Lie Groups, Lie Algebras and their Representations University of California, Santa Cruz, April 26-27, 2008 The Spring 2008 workshop in the program Lie Groups, Lie Algebras and Their Representations will take place on the campus of the University of California, Santa Cruz, April 26 and 27, 2008. Geoff. Mason (gem@cats.ucsc.edu) is the local organizer. The workshops "Lie Groups, Lie Algebras and their Representations" meet at various western United States campuses for one weekend every few months during the academic year. The Workshop is supported by a grant from the National Science Foundation. The purpose of the program is to communicate results and ideas rather than to deliver polished presentations. The program also serves to acquaint graduate students in this area with a range of researchers in Lie theory and representation theory. There is no registration fee. Limited support for non-local graduate students and postdocs is available, and graduate students are encouraged to attend. Contact the local organizer regarding support. Workshop Schedule (preliminary): ================== All talks will take place in Room 372, Baskin Engineering Bldg. Sat 10:15 Coffee Sat 11:00 Michael Tuite Vertex operator algebras and exceptional Lie (UGalway and UCSC) and finite groups. Sat 14:00 Peter Trapa Character formulas for GL(n,F). (U.Utah) Sat 15:15 Nitu Kitchloo K-theory and Integral Highest weight (UCSD) representations of Kac-Moody groups. Sat 16:30 Floyd Williams Zeta integrals on higher rank symmetric spaces. (UMass) Sun 9:00 Coffee Sun 9:45 Stephen DeBacker Generic representations are often relatively (UMich) uncommon Sun 10.45 Zhongzhu Lin Frobenius twisted conjugacy classes in full (KSU & MSRI) matrix rings. Parking and other information: ==================== Parking is free on campus over the weekend. There is a parking lot behind the Baskin Engineering Building, and a parking structure across the street. There will be a dinner Saturday evening at a local Chinese restaurant, followed by a reception at Geoff Mason's house. Lodging information: ==================== There are many hotels in the Santa Cruz Area. Early reservations are advised. One suggesting is Ocean Pacific Lodge, which is a block or two from the beach, wharf and boardwalk. -- Judy Hobor Undergraduate Advisor/Course Assistant/MDTP Coordinator Mathematics Department/UCSC BE 194A (831) 459-2400 (831) 459-3260 (fax) Website: http://math.ucsc.edu -- Judy Hobor Undergraduate Advisor/Course Assistant/MDTP Coordinator Mathematics Department/UCSC BE 194A (831) 459-2400 (831) 459-3260 (fax) Website: http://math.ucsc.edu
