Calculus Series Transitions Policy
For students who have already started one of the lower division calculus series but wish to transition into a higher level series please see below. This policy does not override a department's ability to decide if an exception to major requirements is valid for that department's major. Your major department may not accept the calculus series transitions that the Mathematics Department allows. It is your responsibility to make sure exceptions are approved for your major requirements.
Approval is subject to space being available in the requested course and students pursuing a transition between calculus sequences are not given priority.
If a student is from another department (not a Mathematics Major), then that student must check with their major department to validate any exceptions made to major requirements.
- Math 11A to Math 19B. A student must receive a grade of B or better to be allowed via permission number into Math 19B.
- Math 11B to Math 23A. A student must receive a grade of B or better to be allowed via permission number into Math 23A.
- Math 22 to Math 23B. A student must receive a grade of B or better to be allowed via permission number into Math 23B.
- AMS 11A to Math 11B. A student must receive a grade of B or better to be allowed via permission number into Math 11B.
- AMS 11A to Math 19B. A student must receive a grade of B or better to be allowed via permission number into Math 19B.
- AMS 11B to Math 22. A student must receive a grade of A- or better to be allowed via permission number into Math 22.
- AMS 11B to Math 23A. A student must receive a grade of A- or better to be allowed via permission number into Math 23A.
To be able to enroll in a subsequent course through this policy a student will need to be given a permission number. Our enrollment system is not able to recognize a prerequisite policy that is based on grade requirements and therefore, a permission number is neccessary.
